A few years ago, when I was a young teenager, I realized that I wanted to find a suitable platform that would allow me to develop good entrepreneurship skills from home and cultivate an understanding of participation in the operations of marketing. I particularly wanted my own home to be my “homebase” for my endeavors because I could request for the help of my parents at any time I needed it. I came across Poshmark. If you are unfamiliar with the site, Poshmark is an online marketplace for selling primarily clothes and accessories. I looked around my bedroom at home and observed that I—indeed—could establish my own personal account to market items that I no longer found a use for. Additionally, I made it a goal to use my personal earnings to fund my academics, international trips, and things I aspire to have for my own enjoyment. Given all of the possible directions I could put my earnings towards as a teenager, I felt very excited and motivated to initiate my participation in the Poshmark market. I ultimately found Poshmark to be the right platform for me because I could learn to employ marketing skills and build a good starting foundation of earnings while marketing a branch of products that I had a strong inclination towards.
With these purposes in mind, I created my own account on Poshmark step-by-step. I have learned the fundamental tips and tricks that would allow me to build a good following, and market my personal items carefully yet efficiently. Along the way, I also have learned ways I could perform good customer service given the array of interaction options for buyer to seller, seller to buyer, and seller to seller that Poshmark outlines—including private discounting on the part of the seller towards ‘likers’ (potential buyers) of my listings, giving buyers the option of creating bundles (a collection of listings at a negotiated price), and sharing the listings of other sellers to form mutual friends/followings. It has been a fun yet informative learning experience in the world of marketing as a teenager. But alongside the standard operations, I appreciate that Poshmark allows buyers and sellers to communicate amongst each other to larger scales. As a participant on Poshmark, I can participate in the big-scale online activities—“Posh Parties” are great because they present Poshmark participants with the opportunity to promote their brand to other participants given their themes, and sell items off quickly and easily—and have good ‘fashion marketing conversation’ on the side! I found that the operations of Poshmark were easy to pick up on in a relatively short amount of time.
My personal experience of marketing on the Poshmark site has indeed helped me set aside funds for school supplies, international trips for my music groups at school, and new things for personal enjoyment. I am thrilled to be part of an online platform—that allows me to specialize in my own creative niche, and gives me insight into the marketing world—at a young age.
